BWP (Belgian Warmblood): the Belgian horse in show jumping

The BWP (Belgisch Warmbloed Paard, Belgian Warmblood) is one of the benchmark studbooks of show jumping. Here is an essential overview.

Origins

The Belgian studbook was founded in 1955. Its foundation stock included French (Selle Français) and Dutch (KWPN) jumping horses, plus Hanoverian and Holstein lines [1].

In show jumping

BWP is a constant presence at the top of international jumping; benchmark stallions such as Cornet Obolensky and Emerald van't Ruytershof come from this studbook [1].
